Three women novices make their vow of chastity

On February 11th, three women novices made their vow of chastity before bishop Olivier SCHMITTHAEUSLER of Phnom Penh diocese. The three will now become members of the Prividence of Portieur Sisters Congregation and will live in the service of God and the Church at the congregation’s house in Phnom Penh.

The three are Sr. Mary Bier FUSTINA from Koh Sompov Church of Kompong Cham diocese, Sr. That Theary MATHALY and Sr. Sok Brathna MARY AGUIET from Vietnam. At the ceremony, the new religious have vowed to follow the way of Jesus by living a life of chastity, poverty and obedience.

Sr. Agnes, the supervisor of Prividence of Portieur Sisters Congregation in Cambodia accepted the vows of the three religious and she prayed to God to receive the offer of the new nuns. She hoped that with God’s love, their faith will be strengthened so that they may live in accordance with their vow.

Bishop Olivier said, “in our daily life, in response to God’s call and when we say “yes” like Samuel in the Old Testament, it is to speak everyday for the whole world, to show that we are the real servants of God.” He went on to say that “as we meditate on how to serve our Church, our lives become a sign so that youth may respond to God’s call as a religious, like Sisters today.”

At the present time, Prividence of Portieur Sisterss Congregation in Cambodia has 30 members serving in the Church by educating children and youth, teaching them literacy, tailoring, catechetics and taking part in the Church’s liturgical needs.
