The Research seminar on “memory and identity” received better results following the 3-day program at St. Paul’s Institute in Takeo province’s Tramkak district with 104 trainees present, which was initiated bishop Olivier, the bishop of Phnom Penh and the director of St. Paul’s Institute.

The seminar ended successfully as all the participants understood deeply the Cambodian identity, its ancient history, cultures, literature, arts, rights and freedom in relation to the forthcoming integration of Asean, which will enable Cambodians to preserve the rich history and identity of Cambodian society today and in the future.

In his remarks, the bishop said that “ the 3-day seminar was aimed at: 1) helping students and professors have a chance of conducting more research on social issues 2) Remembering their identity so as to help all Cambodian children know about their history and tradition because such knowledge is important and it has helped us build our identity today when preparing for the coming integration of Asean.”

He further pointed out that “recommendation made by all the participants will be published so that the young generation may know their cultures and traditions they have received from their forefathers. Nowadays we are completely different but from day to day we build an identity and have a right to build this identity independently. The results are guiding us to understand clearly about each other’s cultures, especially to respect the rights and dignity of others in life and learn to promote peace.”

This seminar was held from March 17th-19th with the involvement of well-known professors, doctors both locals and from abroad like Mrs. Milena Santerini, the parliamentary member and professor from the Bergiamo University, Italy and Mrs. Claily, another professor from France.
